Advocacy & Public Policy For Life
The Archdiocese of San Francisco is committed to upholding the dignity of every human person, from conception to natural death. Rooted in the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the teachings of the Catholic Church, our Respect Life Advocacy efforts seek to form consciences, accompany those in need, and promote a culture that values and protects all human life.
Respect for life is not a single issue, but a way of seeing the world—recognizing that every person is created in the image and likeness of God and deserves love, protection, and compassion.
Our Mission
Respect Life Advocacy works to:
Defend the sanctity of human life at every stage
Educate the faithful on Church teachings regarding life issues
Support parish-based Respect Life ministries
Advocate for laws and public policies that protect human dignity
Accompany individuals and families facing difficult life decisions
Through prayer, education, pastoral care, and public witness, we strive to build a culture of life throughout our parishes, schools, and communities.
What We Advocate For
Our advocacy includes, but is not limited to:
Protection of unborn children and support for women experiencing unplanned or difficult pregnancies
Compassionate care for the sick, elderly, and disabled, opposing euthanasia and assisted suicide
Support for families, including parents, children, and caregivers
Defense of the poor and vulnerable, including migrants, refugees, and those impacted by poverty or violence
Promotion of restorative justice and alternatives that affirm life and dignity
Each of these efforts reflects the Church’s consistent ethic of life.
