St. Mary’s Event Center, a secular business, is located on the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption complex property at Geary Blvd. and Gough Street in San Francisco. The Event Center is located centrally in San Francisco and boasts 20,000 square feet of event space across three ballrooms…one of which can be further split into three smaller rooms. The Event Center also has a commercial kitchen that is well-suited to support professional catering companies. Our customer base includes the Archdiocese of San Francisco, several Catholic High Schools, Civic Groups, Individuals, Associations and a host of Nonprofit Organizations.


The Event Setup Specialist will report to and work closely with the Director of Events on venue floorplans, limited hospitality preparation & offerings of coffee and drinks when necessary, and venue cleaning projects that need undertaking.


Job specifics:
1. Hours:
a. Full time; 40 hours per week.
b. Usually M-F, 8am-5pm…but also dependent upon activities taking place in the Event Center over the course of the week, including possible weekend or evening work on occasion.
2. Client Services and Venue Setup:
a. Interpret floorplans and events with Event Center Director.
b. Show prospective clients various meeting rooms.
c. Prepare setups according to client specifications. This may include minor audio / visual support.
d. Communicate with lead client contact before and during special events.
e. Run events (make coffee, take care of client’s needs), making sure events are appropriately supported with adequate staff.
3. Physical Abilities:
a. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds up to waist height.
b. No overhead lifting is required.
4. Facilities Oversight:
a. Schedule janitorial staff and duties.
b. Work with Facilities Manager as needed to schedule maintenance and repairs.
c. Ensure that all floor care is completed regularly, making sure that the marble floors are cleaned, buffed and polished, and that carpets are regularly vacuumed and shampooed.
d. Make sure all equipment is in proper working condition. Coordinate regular maintenance and service of equipment.
5. Demeanor, Interpersonal Skills and work ethic:
a. Must be stable, motivated, flexible, and well organized.
b. Interface with clients as well as with all levels of Cathedral management and colleagues.
c. Possess an open communication style. Communicate succinctly. Process feedback and opportunities for improvement as positive staff development.
d. Be accountable and committed to assigned deadlines.
