14th Annual SF Turkey Drive: Neighbors Fighting Hunger Together

November 22 @ 9:00 am - December 20 @ 12:00 pm

Our slogan this year is A Gift of Food Is A Gift of Life… a powerful statement that is so true for those living on the edge of poverty

San Francisco, CA — The SF Turkey Drive returns this holiday season for its 14th year, uniting neighbors, parishioners, and friends to fight hunger locally. Donations will be collected on Saturday, November 22, and Saturday, December 20, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at St. Emydius Church. The DROP OFF site is located at 350 De Montfort Ave. at Jules, Ingleside District, San Francisco.

New this year: donors may choose where their contributions go. Your generosity will benefit one or more of the following local organizations:

  • San Francisco-Marin Food Bank – Ending hunger locally.
  • St. Francis Living Room – Supporting and uplifting low-income seniors in the Tenderloin.
  • St. Anthony Foundation – Working toward a society in which every person can thrive.

At the SF Turkey Drive, we’ll be collecting:

  • Frozen turkeys (preferred), hams (December only), and fresh vegetables (onions, potatoes, carrots) for the SF-Marin Food Bank.
  • Non-perishable breakfast items (peanut butter, jam, oatmeal) for St. Francis Living Room.
  • Monetary donations—100% of which go directly to the nonprofit of your choice.

A Community Tradition Since 2012

The SF Turkey Drive began in 2012 with one simple mission: to fight hunger in San Francisco during the holiday season. What started with a one-person idea collecting turkeys on his San Francisco block has grown into a citywide effort, drawing hundreds of donors and dozens of volunteers each year.

Over the past 13 years, the Drive has collected thousands of turkeys and fresh produce, along with vital financial contributions. Altogether, this community effort has helped prepare more than 325,000 meals to children, families, and seniors across San Francisco.

Last year alone, neighbors came together to donate over 1,250 turkeys, enough to prepare more than 60,000 meals for our partner organizations.

Hope Is on the Table — Thanks to You

With food insecurity on the rise and resources stretched thin, this year’s SF Turkey Drive is more important than ever.

“Your gift of food can be their lifeline,” says organizer Pierre Smit. “It’s inspiring to see how one act of generosity from a neighbor can ripple through our entire city, bringing hope and nourishment to those who need it most.”

Volunteers Needed

The Turkey Drive also welcomes volunteers at the drop-off site on collection days. Volunteers help greet donors, collect food, and load donations for delivery to our partner organizations. It’s a rewarding way to give back and meet fellow neighbors who share a passion for service.

We also need volunteers to help spread the word on social media! Anyone can join in by sharing our posts or creating their own on Instagram, Facebook, or other platforms. Every share helps raise awareness and bring more support to the cause.

About the Organizer:
Pierre Smit
was born and raised in Belgium. After earning a master’s degree in mechanical engineering, he left his country with $1,000 to his name. After traveling for several months, he arrived in San Francisco in 1979 — a city he has called home ever since.

Early in his San Francisco years, there were days when food was scarce — an experience that shaped his lifelong belief that no one in our community should go hungry.
