250th Founding of the Presidio of San Francisco

June 27 @ 10:00 am

Los Californianos invites you to the June 27th celebration of the 250th anniversary of the 1776 Juan Bautista Anza Expedition’s arrival from Mexico and establishment of the Presidio of San Francisco. During our annual celebration at the Presidio in 2026, we will also commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Declaration of Independence and the founding of the City of San Francisco.

Los Californianos has coordinated this public event for over 50 years. This year the moderator will share significant events that occurred on both the East Coast and West Coast in 1776. There will be an entry procession, flag ceremonies, re-enactors and period dress, brief speeches, prayers, music, and a roll call of the names of the 240, men, women and children, who were escorted to Alta California by Juan Bautista de Anza in 1776.

Descendants of the founding families will commemorate the 250th anniversary of the arrival of the settlers and soldiers who made the long journey overland to San Francisco and founded El Presidio de San Francisco and Mission San Francisco de Asís (Mission Dolores).

Los Californianos also invites everyone to participate in docent-led tours of the Presidio’s Heritage Gallery Museum and in a self-guided walking tour to the site of the Spanish Presidio chapel.

We welcome historical re-enactors, musicians, dancers, and dignitaries for the larger celebration of the 250th Anniversary. Period clothing prior to 1900 worn by attendees (soldado, vaquero, pioneer, military) will enhance the event.
