800th Anniversary Franciscan Celebration

800th Anniversary Celebration of Saint Francis of Assisi
Join us for a once-in-800-years celebration honoring the life and legacy of Saint Francis of Assisi at the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption on Friday, October 16, 2026.
The festivities begin with the Cathedral doors opening at 4:00 p.m., followed by a Sacred Concert presented by the Cathedral Choir at 5:00 p.m. At 5:30 p.m., the community will gather for the Mass for the Memorial of Saint Francis, with Most Reverend Steven J. Lopes, Bishop of the Ordinariate of the Chair of Saint Peter, serving as Principal Celebrant.
At 6:30 p.m., a ribbon-cutting ceremony and first public viewing will mark the opening of the Sacred Relics of Saint Francis of Assisi and Masterpieces Exhibition. Guests are then invited to enjoy a Franciscan Aperitivo Reception at 7:30 p.m. in Saint Francis Hall, followed by an Elegant Franciscan Banquet at 8:30 p.m.
Following the celebration, the Sacred Relics and Masterpieces Exhibition will remain on display in the Cathedral sanctuary for six weeks, from October 10 through November 25, 2026.
We invite you to share this historic occasion with family, friends, and fellow disciples of Saint Francis.
