Blessed Pier Giorgio was recognized by Pope St. John Paul II as the patron for young adult Catholics and one of the patrons of World Youth Day, and saw him as "a modern youth and great mountaineer who was keenly interested in the problems of
culture, sports and social questions, as well as the true values of life."
