Distribute Ashes at the San Francisco County Jails

Distribute Ashes at the San Francisco County Jails
As we enter the holy season of Lent, we are inviting compassionate volunteers to help bring the grace and hope of Ash Wednesday to our brothers and sisters inside the San Francisco County Jails.
Each year, volunteers accompany the Restorative Justice Ministry in visiting incarcerated individuals to offer prayer, presence, and the traditional imposition of ashes. This is a powerful act of mercy that reminds every person—regardless of their circumstances—that they are created by God, loved, and never forgotten by the Church.
Volunteer Role
- Accompany jail chaplains and ministry leaders during Ash Wednesday services.
- Assist in distributing ashes to individuals in the housing units.
- Offer a brief prayer, a smile, or a word of encouragement as appropriate.
- No prior experience is required training and guidance are provided.
