In observance of National Restorative Justice Month and International Restorative Justice Week, the Archdiocese of San Francisco invites you to a powerful webinar titled “Rooted in Justice, Rising in Hope: Voices of Advocacy, Clemency, and Healing.” This event brings together a diverse panel of individuals whose lived experiences and leadership reflect the transformative power of restorative justice, clemency, and community healing. Sister Helen Prejean, CSJ, founder of the Ministry Against the Death Penalty and author of Dead Man Walking, will share her decades-long journey accompanying those on death row and advocating for abolition. Claire Senchyna, California Chapter leader of Moms Demand Action, will speak as a homicide survivor, advocate, and mother who channels her grief into purpose-driven activism for gun violence prevention. Donna Larsen, a longtime advocate with Death Penalty Focus and mother of Keith Doolin—a factually innocent man on death row—will share her story of resilience and her fight for justice for the wrongfully convicted. Warden Ron Andes of the San Quentin Rehabilitation Center will offer insights into the evolving role of rehabilitation and restorative practices within the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Louis Calvin, formerly incarcerated at San Quentin and granted clemency by Governor Gavin Newsom in June 2020, will share hi personal journey of transformation and redemption after serving nearly 33 years. The webinar will open with a prayer and pledge for peace led by Archbishop Salvatore J. Cordileone, and will be moderated by Julio Escobar, Restorative Justice Program Coordinator for the Archdiocese of San Francisco.
