About The Course
Myths and Reality of the Catholic Church
The late Archbishop Fulton Sheen famously said, “There are not one hundred people in the United States who hate the Catholic Church, but there are millions who hate what they wrongly perceive the Catholic Church to be.” Today, he would have to update the figure of 100 considerably. Still, many people mistakenly opposed the Catholic Church because of misunderstandings and misperceptions. While most Catholics have been far from perfect followers of Christ, many things people think about Catholics and their beliefs are just plain wrong.
In this six-session course Mark Brumley looks at many common myths about the Catholic Church and compares them to reality. Common myths and points of confusion include mistakes about the Bible and the Catholic Church, Church history, and Catholic beliefs and practices concerning the Holy Eucharist, Mary and the Saints, the Pope, and Salvation.
