With Coptic Christians facing ongoing persecution in Egypt, San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore J. Cordileone and Greek Orthodox Metropolitan Gerasimos have written a letter to U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi asking her to bring HR 49 to the House floor for a vote. The non-binding resolution notes that even with some improvements in the status of Coptic Christians, they continue to face violence, and do not have equal rights and opportunities in the predominantly Muslim country. Coptic Christians are about 10 million strong and are the largest Christian community in the Middle East.
