Learning about our patron Saint

The second graders at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic School in Burlingame spent October learning all about St. Francis as they prepare for the 800th anniversary of his death in 2026. Guided by their teacher, Sister Corinna Catalano, the students explored the life of the beloved saint and discovered how his kindness, joy and love for creation continue to inspire the Church and the world today.

Using the anniversary issue of the magazine as well as other books and website on St. Francis, the students created beautiful, unique reports detailing the life of St. Francis and answering questions about the city of San Francisco. They also wrote reflections on the impact St. Francis made on the world, how they could make St. Francis alive around them, and questions they would ask him if they met him—such as “are there mangos in heaven?”
