St. Peter Catholic School to open Dual Language Immersion Program for 2024-2025 school year

By Janelle Godoy

In the 2024-2025 academic year, St. Peter Catholic School in San Francisco will launch a new Dual Language Immersion Program for the incoming Kindergarten class. This program will allow students to learn and become fluent in English and Spanish, giving them a competitive edge in our increasingly global society.

The goals for the program are biliteracy and biculturalism. The program has been in formation for the past several years and is seen as a great asset to St. Peter’s students and greater community. Planning for the new program included hours of research, a feasibility study conducted in partnership with Boston College’s Roche Center, and participation in the Two-Way Immersion Network for Catholic Schools (TWIN-CS). St. Peter’s is the first school in the Archdiocese to implement this unique program.

The program will begin with the 2024-2025 incoming Kindergarten class as a dual immersion class. Then as the class progresses and new students enter, after nine years St. Peter’s will be a complete dual language immersion school, from Kindergarten through 8th grade.
